摘要：本文认为。西部地区因历史、自然、国家政策等各方面的原因，经济发展严重滞后于东、中部地区。随着知识经济的到来。地区间的竞争越来越取决于各地区对技术、知识的投入和创新力量。要想改变西部的落后面貌，只有加大西部地区的技术投入，培养创新力量。这是实现西部地区经济增长的有效途径。
The author holds that West China has fallen far behind the rest of the country in its economic development because of many historical, natural and political reasons. With the advent of the knowledge economy, the competitive capability of the regions is more and more dependent upon its technological investment and innovative potentials, which are in fact the key to the improvement of the economic situation of West China. The paper concludes with a few suggestions that the author believes feasible in the execution of such policies.
