The autobiographical tradition of Chinese Americans began with the early Chinese immigrants. This is not entirely true relations of their personal lives, on the one hand it is reflections of the harshness of their American life, on the other hand it distorts their history in this new world. Nowadays, Chinese American writers such as Maxine Hong Kingston and Amy Tan carry on this literary tradition but focus more on the re-telling of Chinese presence in America. Moreover, they are trying to re-establish Chinese Americans' autobiographical tradition as a hybrid culture.
