摘要：伊恩·班克斯是当代苏格兰最具影响力的作家之一,其作品《乌鸦公路》融合了侦探小说、爱情小说和恐怖小说等多种通俗文学元素,通过历史叙事与个人叙事的手法讲述了主人公普伦蒂斯·迈克赫恩对自我的探索历程。普伦蒂斯通过对过去的探寻,发现其家族历史的秘密,深入了解了苏格兰厚重的历史沉淀,在此过程中完善其家族历史叙事的连贯性,强化自己的苏格兰民族意识,从而逐渐走向成熟,成功进行个人身份定义。《乌鸦公路》全面描述了苏格兰历史背景下的个人身份探索历程,以个案说明个人身份由社会和历史共同决定,而并非孤立存在。没有历史的连贯性,个人身份也就无从谈起,只有深入感知和理解家族与苏格兰历史,才能定义自我,进而找到完整的个人身份。
As one of the most influential contemporary Scottish writers,Iain Banks created the novel The Crow Road,which combines the elements of detective stories,romance and thrillers,and describes the protagonist Prentice Mchoan＇s journey of defining himself through historical and individual narratives.Prentice digs into the past and uncovers family secretes,rebuilds the continuity of family history,strengthens his Scottish national consciousness,and in this process,he grows mature and finds his individual identity.The Crow Roadis about defining oneself in contemporary Scottish society,and thus illustrates with this case that individual identity is determined by social and historical environment instead of existing in isolation.Without continuity of history,personal identity is impossible.Only by deeply perceiving and understanding the family and Scotland＇s history can one define himself and find a complete personal identity.
